According to the ADL press release on 17 Feb, “Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) and BYD UK jointly announced today that their electric vehicle partnership, the UK’s leading electric bus producer, will supply over 130 zero emission double deck buses to EV fleet and battery storage specialist Zenobē and bus operator National Express, and support these vehicles with spare parts over a period of 16 years. The buses will help to make Coventry the UK’s first all-electric bus city.”

The order will be for 130 double-decker electric buses, produced by ADL in partnership with BYD. The buses will be delivered to Coventry in 2023. Further to the goal of being the first all-electric bus city, it is expected to replace all of its around 300 diesel vehicles by 2025.

Frank Thorpe, Managing Director, BYD UK said: “The issue of climate change is one that requires immediate action. We believe that this arrangement is a positive, more viable way forward for many public transport operators to swiftly integrate and transition to zero-emission pure-electric bus solutions. National Express has first-hand experience operating BYD ADL eBuses, which utilize BYD’s pioneering battery and integrated electronic technology.

“With a longstanding knowledge of the UK market, BYD is especially proud to be involved in this project, which is setting a precedent for a new way of accelerating and financing eMobility for a better, greener world.”

BYD brings UK to a greener country

Earlier in the day, BYD delivered 29 new pure-electric double-decker buses to Abellio UK, but just three days later, BYD received another 130 orders for the partnership, but it was clearly stated in the partnership that BYD’s NEV expense and battery technology were the reasons for its partnership.

BYD is bringing the world a greener way of transportation from a variety of perspectives. While most companies may still start with small vehicles, BYD is using technology in public transportation and logistics to achieve a greener future, as they have claimed earlier- Technology, Green, Future.

A few days earlier, BYD’s pure-electric trucks for the US Super Bowl have shown that BYD’s NEVs are more diversified than the normal EV company can imitate, and are unique to the industry.
