Tesla announced 22 supercharging stations and 128 supercharging piles in operation covering China starting Dec 2021.
Up to now, Tesla has over 1000 supercharging stations and over 8000 supercharging piles with over 700 destination charging stations and over 1800 destination charging piles, which have covered more than 60 cities in China.

NIO aims to catch up
With NIO’s European expansion plan started from Norway, in order to optimize a complete service body system, they planned to build over 1300 battery swap stations in China, 6000 supercharging piles and 10000 destination charging piles.
As of the end of 2021, NIO had already operated 777 battery swap stations, 205 highway battery swap stations, 605 supercharging stations, 3404 supercharging piles, 626 destination charging stations, 3461 destination charging piles and inserted over 450,000 third-party charging piles.

Tesla prioritizes supercharging over battery swap stations
“We created our own connector, as there was no standard back then & Tesla was only maker of long range electric cars. It’s one fairly slim connector for both low & high power charging. That said, we’re making our Supercharger network open to other EVs later this year.”

Destination Charging station
Installed in public places, both NIO and Tesla build destination charging stations. But NIO’s destination charging piles are one time more than Tesla’s which shows the owner of NIO is covered in more cities than Tesla’s.
Battery Swap Stations
Battery swap services saves charging time. Something NIO is doing, which Tesla has given up years ago.
