China EV maker NIO eyes to expand next in Germany, delivering ET7 with a sense of community

Many Europe staff attracted by NIO’s user-centric philosophy and tech concepts.

CEO for China EV maker NIO, WIlliam Li, announced to deliver NIO ET7 to its German customers in 2022, as reported by Handelsblatt on 20 Dec, 2021. ET7 is Nio’s first autonomous driving model and smart electric flagship sedan.

Nio tops second in number of EV sales in China, ES6 as bestseller

Established in 2014, NIO has quickly established as major EV makers in China, ranking second in the number of EV vehicles delivered in China in 2021, sold over 90,000 EVs. In December 2021, Nio delivered 10,489 vehicles, increasing by 49.7% year-on-year.

While China market continue to prosper, NIO has also activated launching and sales in Europe, despite influence over pandemic. First entering Norwegian market, NIO House Oslo is now selling NIO ES8.

Staffed with compatible and global expansion team

In an interview with Hui Zhang, vice president at NIO Europe, he said that

“We now have a very international feel to the company with more than 14,000 employees from around 50 different countries. We have built a small but diverse European team, with many attracted by NIO’s user-centric philosophy and technology concepts. Our most recent additions include studio directors Joaquin Garcia and Alister Whelan: Joaquin joins us from SEAT and CUPRA, while Alister has over two decades of experience from Jaguar Land Rover.”

Foster sense of community within early Europe adopters

With community operation is relative success in China, NIO aims to replicate its community building likewise in Europe. NIO User Advisory Board plays key role, with already more than 650 Norwegians applied as members and 200 selected to support NIO’s integration into European market. These privileged members first offered first to experience ES8 and were welcomed to provide suggestions that help shape NIO’s service, offering and operations regionally.

Beside Norway and Germany, NIO aims to expand to Sweden, Denmark and Netherlands, hoping to land in more than 25 countries and respective users.

NIO’s charging and battery swapping stations provides infrastructure solution to EV transport concerns

As global brand that emphasize on user experience, NIO’s holistic charging and battery swapping solutions are a catch. NIO has received approval from authorities in Norway to have our first Power Swap station in Lier, which is about 30 kilometres south of Oslo and is set to open imminently.

We plan to have another 20 in Norway by the end of 2022, located in major cities and along busy transport routes.

New partnership with Shell also help to further improvements to battery charging and swapping facilities for NIO users, both in China and Europe. As part of the plans, pilot stations will be constructed and operated in Europe from 2022, with 100 battery swapping stations to be installed in China by 2025.

In the conference call on the in 2021, NIO CEO William Li said ambitiously, that in the long term it was “a reasonable plan” for overseas markets to contribute 50% of total EV sales.
