Despite delayed deliveries due to Chinese New Year and 30% decrease in subsidies for new energy vehicles, sales continue to show significant growth for China EV Trio, though slightly fell from December 2021.

XPeng tops sales performance among the three, delivering 12,922 automobiles in January, which is the fifth month in a row that the company has exceeded 10,000 units in sales consecutively. Li Auto sold 12,268 vehicles, whilst NIO sold 9,652 vehicles.

China EV trio positioning

From the positioning of each car manufacturer, NIO is seeking to be like  German luxury carmakers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi in the luxury automobile industry.

On the other hand, Li Auto is aimed towards families with children. It has quickly established itself as one of the most popular models among young parents today.

XPeng is aiming for a broader market, with lower prices and more eye-catching products in the hopes of attracting more youthful consumers. In terms of deliveries over the last four months, XPeng, which has the lowest average price of the three firms, had the most, while NIO, which has the highest price, had the least.

Seems like the small EV market in 2022 leads all models, making it the most mainstream size of the car series.

Production capacity

XPeng now has a facility in Zhaoqing that produces 100,000 units each year. The business announced in August that the plant would be expanded, bringing yearly capacity to 200,000 units. However, the corporation has yet to disclose the project’s completion date. XPeng started building on a second facility in Guangzhou in September 2020, with a planned annual capacity of 100,000 units, and plans to begin manufacturing by the end of 2022.

In early October of last year, NIO renovated its existing factory to raise annual capacity from 100,000 to 120,000 units per year, with the potential for double shifts to reach 240,000 units.

Li Auto’s current plant in Changzhou, began production in 2019 and has a 100,000-unit yearly capacity. The firm will complete the update in the first half of 2022, when annual capacity could jump to 300,000 units due to more shifts or greater workloads.

The new plant, which would expand yearly manufacturing capacity to 200,000 units , is slated to be completed in 2022, according to the business.
