China top EV maker NIO collaborates with Zhejiang Commercial Group to build battery swap stations

On December 9, NIO signed a partnership with Zhejiang Commercial Group to jointly build a high-speed power exchange network.

Zhejiang Commercial Group is the largest state-owned integrated transportation commercial investment operator in Zhejiang, managing more than 60 pairs of service areas in Zhejiang province and beyond.

The two companies aim to build battery swap stations in at least 15 pairs, or 30 service areas, by June 2022, allowing NIO’s battery swap network to complete coverage of Zhejiang’s highways, according to a release from NIO.

Prior to this, NIO also signed a number of partnerships.On November 23, 2021, NIO signed a strategic cooperation agreement Guangdong Tongyi Expressway Service Co Ltd, which operates 352 service areas. On December 15, NIO signed an agreement with Anhui Yida Service Area Management Co Ltd to jointly build 13 battery swap stations in highway service areas in Anhui. On December 28, NIO announced a strategic cooperation agreement with Hebei Expressway Group to jointly build a battery swap network covering the local highways in Hebei province in northern China.

As of January 10, NIO has built 784 power exchange stations in China(including 205 expressway power stations), 620 overcharging stations, and 626 destination charging stations, and has accessed over 450,000 third-party charging piles.

Nio has grown significantly in the seven years since its founding in November 2014. The company, which launched its first production model in 2018, has delivered a total of 167,070 NEVs so far,while the number of Xpeng and Li Auto is 137,953 and 124,088.

As a new force of electric vehicles in China, NIO delivered 91429 vehicles for the full 2021 (up 109.10% year-on-year), doubling for two consecutive years.

It delivered 10,489 vehicles in December (up 49.7% year-on-year  and 3.6% month-on-month ).In the fourth quarter, a total of 2,034 vehicles were delivered (up 44.3%year-on-year), achieving positive growth for seven consecutive quarters.

NIO Power, a power service system based on NIO Power Cloud, provides a holistic charging and swapping service experience to users via its extensive power network encompassing battery swap stations, charging stations, Power Mobiles, and professional service teams.

To provide a better power service experience to its rapidly growing user base, NIO always committed to expand NIO Power’s charging and swapping network. In 2021, NIO has completed its target of installing 700 battery swap stations.

The milestone 700th station was installed on 10 December 2021, ahead of schedule, in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. In three minutes, the second generation battery swap station enables the vehicle to automatically park in the station and switch for a fully-charged unit. 

From 2022 to 2025, NIO commits to installing 600 new battery swap stations in China. By the end of 2025, NIO will have over 4,000 NIO battery swap stations worldwide with around 1,000 outside of China. 

Furthermore, to share NIO’s achievements with the automotive industry and smart electric vehicle users, NIO announced that NIO Power’s charging and swapping system, as well as BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service), will be fully available to the industry.

NIO users refer to residence within a 3 km (two miles) radius from a battery swap station as “Swap Station District House”.By the end of November 2021,42.34% of NIO customers lived within 3 km of the nearest battery exchange.
