China, Jan.18 – NIO issued that it has provided the new intelligent operating system—Aspen 3.0.5 No for the ES8 users in Norway since January 14, which is the first time for NIO to enable the Firmware Over-The-Air(FOTA) in markets outside of China.

At present, Norway’s ES8 is currently powered by Aspen 3.0.0 NO, an intelligent operating system tailored for local users, and its system languages are Norwegian and English. Besides, Aspen is the name of the NT1 platform model of NIO.

  • Characteristics and advantage of Aspen 3.0.5 No:

To further improve the winter travel experience of Norwegian users, including adding the manual battery preheating in a low temperature environment and prolonging the preheating time of the remote air conditioner.

In addition, it also includes:

Adding cruise mode power assistant, user feedback channels—NOMI Debug and so on, in order to optimise the user experience.

  • What does Norway’s strategy means for NIO?

Norway’s national culture is similar to NIO’ s brand concept. Norway is a country that is open and inclusive, loves environmental protection, and pursues innovation. As a new brand, the threshold for NIO to enter the Norwegian market is relatively low, and the choice of taking the lead in establishing brand image in Norway is conducive to NIO’ s subsequent entry into other markets.

The traditional car industry is unencumbered in Norway, and the demonstration effect of the policy is huge. In the first quarter of 2021, the market share of Battery Electric Vehicle(BEV) reached 57%, and the number continues to climb. Norway’s favourable New Energy Vehicle (NEV) environment helps NIO’ s development.

The Norwegian market is different from other European countries in that it is large in size and sparsely populated. Unlike most European countries, which mainly focus on small hatchback cars, full-size cars are more popular in Norway.

According to Cleantechnica’ s April 2021 BEV sales data in Norway, NIO has chosen to enter a blue-ocean market where there is no competitor. Sufficient market space provides NIO ES8 and ET7 with space to play, including very important opportunity cost, while the time window period gives NIO more confidence, time and energy to establish its own service standard.
