BYD Electric Bus

According to BYD’s official news, BYD recently delivered the first K6 pure electric bus to National Transport Corporation (NTC), the largest state-run public transport operator in Mauritius, in Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius.

Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Mauritius Minister of Transport Alan Gano, and NTC General Manager Rao Ramah attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.

Why it matters

This is the first purely electric bus operated under NTC and the first BYD K6 purely electric bus put into operation in Mauritius, providing shuttle services between metro stations to attract more tourists.

The K6 electric bus is equipped with BYD’s self-developed integrated drive axle assembly, BYD’s power battery and six-in-one high-voltage electric control integration technology, and the vehicle is precisely tuned for the island road conditions in Mauritius.

The 20-seat pure electric bus K6 can travel up to 225 km on a single charge, and the vehicle can also be recharged and replenished by a solar photovoltaic power station.

“The operation of purely electric buses is an important milestone in the development of public transport in Mauritius and it is believed that this will facilitate the development of a more modern, safe and environmentally friendly transport system.” said by Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Prime Minister of Mauritius.

BYD’s “The Belt and Road Initiative” program

BYD successfully rides on China’s “The Belt and Road Initiative”-B&R Program. BYD also develops electric vehicles in the countries along the project route, providing “clean energy” transportation services and bringing a positive image to the region.

Mauritius is located in East Africa and has plenty of sunshine. It offers good conditions for solar cells. As a result, BYD’s operations are spread throughout major African countries.

BYD’s Electric buses are established globally

At this moment, BYD’s pure electric buses have been widely recognized in South Africa, Kenya, Egypt and other countries, driven into more than 50 countries and regions around the world.

In the future, BYD will continue to help Mauritius to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, and provide environmental protection and zero-emission travel for people and tourists.
